Welcome Address
We would like to invite you to Saint-Malo, to attend the International
Symposium on Iron in Biology and Medicine. To date, the tradition has
been to hold the meeting of the International Association for the Study
of Disorders of Iron Metabolism and the International Conference on
Proteins of Iron Metabolism, successively, a couple of days apart.
Although this arrangement has been quite successful in the past, it
caused the agony of choice for some participants who could not afford to
attend both meetings. For those who chose to hear all about iron, from
the basic science to the care of the patient, some redundancy could not
be avoided.
Thus, we have decided to combine both meetings, and we have put all our
efforts towards organising challenging plenary sessions where each
subject will be introduced by masters in the field, and parallel
sessions where the subjects will be discussed in greater depth. We hope
to stimulate discussion, to promote international collaborative programs
and to generate new ideas for the progress of science and for the
benefit of the patient.
