The purpose of the ATM system is to provide practitioners with a tool enabling them in the choice of a drug for a patient. The drugs proposed by the system must take in account associated diseases, general background like renal failure, hepatic failure, pregnancy..., physiopathological mechanisms of the disease and pharmacotherapeutic properties of drugs.
The Data-Base
Actually there are two relational data-bases, the Drug Data-base and the Drug Side effects Data-base.
Below we will describe the Drug data-base.
Data organisation is complex and is composed of three sub-data-bases linked together.
The Medication sub-data-base contains information about classification, composition and administration form.
The Dosage sub-data-base deals with information required for prescription in relation to an indication.
The Contraindication sub-data-base indexes different levels of contraindications in relation to a substance or a drug class.
The organisation of these data-bases allow mutiple item requests.
As an example : Which drugs may be prescribed for a 72 year old patient suffering from angina pectoris with auricular fibrillation too?
Knowledge Data-Base Integration
The software distribution is made through RENATER and Internet networks using the Web interface.
Two programs will be available : the Consultation module and the Prescription Help module.
The first one can be used at present time. He provides the physician with therapeutic information like the list of drugs in relation with an indication. The navigation through the data-base is planned in order to be ergonomic, clear and rapid.
An example is given enclosed with this paper.
This module is expected to be soon at student service in the school of medicine and pharmacy the University of Rennes.
The second one must be assessed before spreading. We have to develop a presentation procedure of the responses.
