    Overview  
 
  IconoTech is built using 4th dimension (4D), Windows and Macintosh compatible. However, up to now, only the Windows version of IconoTech is available (DICOM functions are not implemented on Macintosh version right now).

It is a DICOM compatible software with a DICOM viewer and a DICOMDIR browser. Using this function, the database automatically integrate images. Images are grouped using the information included in the DICOM header. DICOM windowing parameters can be modified.

Each case contains various text fields:

  • to classify (subspecialties, medical codes such ACR or MeSH, level of difficulty...),
  • to describe (context, studies and images findings, multiple quiz, diagnosis, bibliographic references),
  • and to follow (patient name, patient ID, completion status) the teaching files.
    Images, in various formats (DICOM, BMP, PICT...), are stored independently.

    A multicriteria query module yields a teaching file list or an image mosaic.

    An export function allows to convert a subset of DICOM images in various images format (JPEG, GIF, BMP, PICT) or to submit complete cases to international servers and particularly to the Eurorad online database.

    An e-mail module and a web server are integrated in the software.

    Two plug-ins (sharewares) can be added to increase the functionnalities of this freeware:

    - DICOM communication plug-in from ETIAM. This plug-in allows to integrate DICOM communication functions (DICOM store SCU/SCP and QnR SCU). A demo version of this plug-in is provided (30 mn free after each Iconotech launching). You just have to buy a winSCP licence to ETIAM company to suppress this limitation.

    - AVImaker software to build AVI directly from DICOM files. Download the Platypus Animator software from C-point web server to test this function. To change the logo buy a licence of the software.

        For doing what ?  
     
      IconoTech allows you to create teaching files automatically from DICOM imaging equipments or workstations by a simple DICOM store. You can create a teaching database adding quizzes to your cases.

    The sophisticated query module allows you to find specific cases in order, for example, to prepare a course. You can easily define a subset of images when browsing images. Cases or images can be exported using various format and then you can create BMP images to be placed on slides.

    The e-mail module can be used to send cases or JPEG images to a colleague. Submission of complete cases to international teaching files databases (particularly Eurorad database) is also using this e-mail function.

    The web server use templates to serve dynamically JPEG images (DICOM are converted on the flight).

    		 

     
        Configuration  
     
      IconoTech runs on Windows and needs at least 30 MB free RAM to work properly. Be sure that your disk has enough space for the initial installation of the software (about 20 MB) and to store DICOM images you want to integrate in your teaching files.

    The purpose of this software is to be able to receive DICOM images from DICOM equipments or workstations... if your PC is connected to the network.

    IconoTech include a limited version of the ETIAM SCP receiver which stops 30 mn after IconoTech launching. To buy a full version of SCP go to ETIAM web site.

    Download Platypus Animator software from C-point web site, if you want to add AVI (video) creation functions.

    Do not report :

    It would be great to modify DICOM windowing using the mouse...
    When automatic windowing is apply, WW and WL are set to zero. It would be better to know the WW and WL used.

    Please report other problems encountered. (Do not hesitate to help me to correct translation mistakes).

    January 7th version:

    - Improvements:
        . multiple arrows can now be placed and moved in the author mode. Using the author mode, click on the button with a red arrow which is adjacent to the navigation buttons to add a new arrow on the image. Select an arrow by a single clic on it. Change the position of a selected arrow by a ctrl-clic. Delete, modify the color or the shape of a selected arrow by a the pop-up menu obtained by a new click on the arrow .

    - and a new function: The software can browse a DICOM dir (or a folder) and export DICOM images in various formats including AVI files (if you download Platipus Animator from www.c-point.com.

    November 28th version:

    A lot of new improvements (MIRK index for example) and bug corrections. I have now to document them in the manual !

        Security and archiving  
     
     

    Backup frequently the Iconotech.4DD file and the folder Images containing all images and XML files.

    To restaure a corrupt database:
    - first use the 4D util software
    - or re-import the Image folder (XML + images)
